I want you to think about one issue you have with your business at the moment. I'm going to give you a structure to follow and show you how to solve them.
A while ago, Chris, our friendly neighbourhood course creator, met with a solopreneur and analysed her business data, focusing on the Shopify dashboard. This solopreneur was facing a problem with low sales and was considering a complete redesign of her website.
After a couple of questions, it was evident that the solopreneur didn't have enough information for such an assessment.
By following Chris's structure, they found the source of the problem: visitors to the landing page didn't move to the shop page.
The solution the solopreneur decided to implement was to add a CTA button on the landing page.
Wouldn't redoing the entire website have been overkill?
Let's Get one Thing Straight: Confusion Enhances Fear.
Biases, beliefs, and unclear reasoning enhance fear.
Fear drives people to take unreasonable actions.
If the action is not based on reasonable insights, it's like tossing a coin.
There's a 50% chance it'll go well.
We're talking about our business and our livelihood here. Surely you'd prefer a higher probaility to success than the probability of a coin toss?
“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.” — Marie Curie
This Q&A structure will help you identify the real reasons and actual insights. As a solopreneur and business owner, you can then decide on the best strategy for you and your company and proceed with clarity and confidence.
Let's review Chris' line of thinking during her consultancy. Anyone can easily replicate it!
Step 1: Identify root causes of your business issue
You must first identify the root cause of your beliefs or planned actions. Why are you thinking what you are thinking?
Chris directly addressed the solopreneur with this question. Tell me why you think a new website would help.
There could be zero or many reasons. If there is at least one, list them. Chris could see that her solopreneur client was lost, and that was all she needed to know in this case.
Step 2: Examine the situation and identify the facts.
We now have a list of beliefs and convictions. We must challenge them. "Prove to me there's a reason that proves what you are thinking, and a number to back it up."
Chris simply decided to find some numbers that would tell her what was happening since there was no clear reason yet.
She accessed the automatic Shopify dashboard and analysed some numbers. She wanted to know how many people arrived on the landing page and how many moved to the shop page in the same time range. It was about 50:2!
If you made a longer than zero list of reasons, challenge them all.
One by one, find a number that proves or disproves each reason.
Don't try to prove or disprove them. We're not here to be right or wrong. We're here to understand whether our reasoning is solid.
Step 3: Review your previous reasons.
You now have a set of proven reasons and beliefs. Now you can do your entrepreneuring and put together a strategy that's based on your newly proven knowledge!
After Chris discovered that only 2 out of 50 people reached the shop page from the landing page, the solopreneur client reviewed her landing page with renewed confidence and devised a strategy.
You will do it too.
If you encounter any additional issues, simply revisit the structure as often as necessary. This is an iterative solution. You will encounter several issues, but not all at once.
You can go through all the issues and succeed!
I have faith in you.
